Column van work-at-home expert Liz Folger

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves. John Henry Boetker

But This Only Happens In The Movies

About a week ago I was sitting at home -- contemplating. See, I was going to
be spending a few days in the same town as my publishers' offices. I thought
it would be kinda nice to maybe meet my editor and talk about my upcoming
books. But my low self-confidence was kicking in and whispering nasty things
in my ear like, "Why would they have time for you?"... "You'd just be
bothering them." ...and other delightful thoughts that were running around
like crazy.

Fortunately, the "go get 'em" Liz kicked in for a moment and I quickly dialed
my editor's number. Sure enough, he was going to be out of the area for most
of my visit. However, if I stayed longer than expected I should call. Well,
to make a long story short, I was in the area for a few days longer and I
called. Not only did I set up a time to meet, I was taken out to lunch with
two editors from Prima and we talked about my next two books.

This was something out of the movies to me...I never thought in my wildest
dreams I'd have a face to face meeting with my editors. But none of this
would have happened if I hadn't had the guts to make one simple little phone
call.

How many times have you missed out on something because your self-confidence took a turn for the worse? How many times have you not been able to accomplish great things because you didn't know whether or not you'd be rejected?

I heard a great quote this week... "Life is a terminal illness." You know you're going to die, you just don't know when. Life is way too short not to make a decision because you just don't want to be rejected. Another great quote I heard.... "Fail, going forward." Sure you're going to make a mistake here or there, but in the scheme of things, if you're trying to make things happen -- you'll always be moving forward. It's better to move forward than to become stale and do nothing great with your life.
